There are many places where steel is used in life, and different steels have different properties. So, what is the material of high carbon steel? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Let's find out.

1. What is the material of high carbon steel?

High carbon steel refers to a carbon steel alloy, the carbon content of this synthetic steel is generally between 0.65% and 1.35%. This material has good wear resistance and high hardness, but its thermal hardness is poor, and its hardness is poor at high temperature, so it is easy to be cut. Due to its high carbon content, cracks may appear during water quenching, so water quenching is often not used. The material is easy to make and low in cost, so it is widely used to make parts such as drill bits and knives.

Second, the advantages of high carbon steel

1. Heat: after treatment, high hardness hrc60-65 can be obtained, with good wear resistance.

2. The annealed state has moderate hardness and good machinability.

3. The raw material is easy to obtain and the production cost is low.

Three. Disadvantages of high carbon steel

1. Poor thermal hardness. When the working temperature of the tool is higher than 200°C, its hardness and wear resistance drop sharply.

2. Low hardenability. The diameter of water quenching is usually 15-18mm, while the maximum diameter or thickness of oil quenching is only about 6mm, which is particularly easy to deform and crack.
